TSUGAMI B020-V alarm 9083: serial spindle error

Published Updated

A TSUGAMI B020-V developed intermittent alarm 9083 during main/subspindle synchronization. Comparisons of the drive, cable and sensors showed the alarm moving with the sensor. This revision adds interpretation and scope limits while retaining the recorded tests and photos.

This is a historical repair record for a TSUGAMI B020-V CNC lathe with a main spindle and subspindle. The sensor was marked A860-2155-V001. The issue was an intermittent alarm during synchronized operation; the alarm number alone does not mean every machine needs the same replacement sensor.

The fault occurred only under this machine’s synchronization conditions

In the original record, M56 initiated synchronized main-spindle and subspindle operation, followed by serial spindle error 9083. At 2000 rpm it appeared after about five minutes; at 50 rpm, after about one minute. The spindle drive displayed 83. The initial alarm identified SPN 2, this machine’s subspindle. These are the recorded test observations; the meaning of M56 and synchronization logic must be confirmed from this machine’s documentation.

Narrowing the fault through comparisons

Replacing the subspindle drive did not remove SPN 2 alarm 9083. Replacing the subspindle JYA2 sensor communication cable also failed to clear the fault. The main-spindle and subspindle sensors were then exchanged, and the alarm moved to SPN 1. The SPN 1 screen shown in the original article belongs to this diagnostic stage and must not be confused with the initially affected spindle.

The alarm following the sensor was a key diagnostic clue in this case. After a new sensor was fitted, the alarm cleared and the original record reported a normal test run. The old sensor showed no obvious external wear. The subspindle rotated normally on its own; the fault occurred only under the synchronization conditions described above.

Interpreting amplifier alarm 83

The αi maintenance manual B-65285EN/03 associates 83 with abnormal A/B-phase pulse counts between one-revolution signals, and lists parameters, the sensor, cable shielding and the amplifier as areas to check. Thus a normal-looking sensor does not exclude signal problems, and 83 does not identify a failed part without model verification. The full amplifier specification was not retained in this case; actual repair still requires the corresponding manual.

Limits of the case conclusion

This article preserves the results of the exchanges and replacement at the time; no waveforms or long-term operating data have been added. Confirm sensor mounting position and gap from machine and sensor documentation, not estimates from photos. Exchange tests also require personnel competent in maintenance to verify compatibility and follow shutdown procedures. Other records are in TSUGAMI machine repair articles (Chinese) and the FANUC section.
