FANUC CNCOPSET.TXT import: checking messages 5524 and 5527
Checks before importing CNCOPSET.TXT and the documented procedure for certain series, with an explanation of certification expiry alarm 5524 and how to assess 5527 and subsequent actions against the complete message and software version.

Adding FANUC options or restoring option information requires checking the controller model, system software series and files assigned to that controller. Successful file import does not by itself establish that a function is ready to operate. Assess the loading messages, the state after power is reapplied and verification of the actual function together.
How do CNCOPSET.TXT and OPRM_INF differ?
CNCOPSET.TXT is the import filename specified in the manufacturer’s training material for the option activation file. The supplied file belongs to a particular controller and cannot be used on a different one. OPRM_INF is the option information file stored by the controller; the 30i-B series maintenance manual states that it is located in FROM. When backing up SRAM, also back up the option information file. Neither backup substitutes for the other.
Check the machine-specific information before import
Record the CNC model, software series, serial number and CNC ID. Confirm that the supplied file matches this controller and the required function, and retain the original file. Maintenance personnel familiar with the model should stop operation under the machine manufacturer’s procedure and create backups. If an option requires additional hardware or system software, first verify those prerequisites; importing a file does not complete the entire modification.
Documented import procedure and its scope
The following summarizes the 2007 GE Fanuc training material and applies only to the software series it lists as supporting the remote option system. The codes in the table are the starting software series specified by that material. The particular version on the machine still needs verification. Do not directly apply this procedure to 0i-D, 0i-F, 0i-F Plus or 30i-B.

- Name the file assigned to this controller CNCOPSET.TXT and place it in the root directory of a compatible PCMCIA card.
- Select I/O channel 4, PWE=1 and EDIT mode.
- Follow SYSTEM → PARM → OPRT → OPREAD → EXEC to read the file.
- After confirming that loading completed without errors, cycle the power, return PWE to 0, and check the added function and its required settings. Create another backup after verification.
These steps are based on pages 3 and 6 of the training material. The actual soft-key labels, media and entry conditions must follow the documentation for the machine.
How should 5524 and 5527 be assessed?
5524: Maintenance-manual supplements for 30i-A/B, 31i-A/B and 32i-A/B define it as expiry of the option certification waiting period; RESET cannot clear it. The related 5523 entry specifies a waiting period of 30 days after the alarm occurs, with FANUC service certification required for permanent resolution. If 5524 remains after import, check controller identity, file applicability and the complete loading result. Repeated resets do not establish that the problem is resolved.
5527: When the complete Chinese message means “Option setting normal,” it indicates that the option setting operation was normal; do not confuse it with certification expiry alarm 5524. Interpret it in conjunction with the complete message and software version on the machine. If a separate message requests power cycling, stop the machine under its operating procedure before doing so, then check the relevant functions and remaining alarms after restart. This explanation of the Chinese message was added by this site’s editors; the specific system’s message and manual take precedence.
