What is OPRM_INF.000? FANUC option-file backup and restore precautions

Published Updated

OPRM_INF.000 stores FANUC option information and should be retained with SRAM data and user files. Using a specified 0i-F manual edition, this article outlines backup steps and distinguishes unauthorized restoration from restoration during properly planned maintenance.

In a FANUC system backup, OPRM_INF.000 relates to option information. The manufacturer’s maintenance manual describes OPRM INF in FROM as an option information file containing option parameters. During maintenance, back it up together with SRAM data and user files. The presence of a parameter file alone does not establish that a backup is complete.

Identify the series before choosing a backup method

The procedure below is based solely on the FANUC Series 0i-MODEL F Maintenance Manual, B-64605EN/01. It applies to configurations of the listed 0i-TF, 0i-MF and 0i-PF systems that provide the relevant batch backup menu. For 0i-D, 30i/31i/32i, F Plus and other software versions, consult their respective manuals; do not assume that the same menu numbers apply.

Batch backup example for 0i-F

  1. Schedule a shutdown. Personnel with the necessary maintenance competence should verify the system model, software version and backup media. First preserve any important files already on the media.
  2. Following the manual applicable to the machine, enter the IPL monitor screen and select menu 12 to open the batch backup and restore menu.
  3. Select menu 1 to back up to a memory card, or menu 11 to back up to USB memory. Confirm that data will be output from the CNC to the external media.
  4. Confirm execution and wait for the completion indication. Do not switch off power while saving. If an error occurs, record the complete message; do not treat incomplete files as a valid backup.
  5. After completion, check the file list, including the option information file. Keep the original filenames and save another copy on a computer, organized by machine ID and date, to avoid mixing backups from different machines.

This manual edition states that batch backup includes OPRM_INF.000 when saving user files; existing output files with the same names may be overwritten. See B-64605EN/01, §3.1.1, p. 275, and §§5.4.1–5.4.3, pp. 357–361 (public mirror of the manufacturer’s manual).

Do not restore without authorization and a verified procedure; restoration is not always prohibited

Do not independently delete, overwrite or reload this file to experiment, copy another machine’s options or clear an alarm. Even a backup from the original machine does not mean that reloading it eliminates the need for certification. The manufacturer’s manual discusses restoration after data corruption or replacement of the FROM/SRAM module, and requires option certification afterward. Proper maintenance therefore starts by checking the backup’s identity, the configuration and the certification arrangements.

According to the 0i-D / 0i Mate-D Maintenance Manual B-64305EN/03, p. 182, and revision B-64305EN/03-01, pp. 2–3 (public mirror of the manufacturer’s manual), contact FANUC service for the relevant certification. A backup preserves recovery data; it does not replace option authorization.
